I’m always opting for the minimalist, natural makeup look. Today, I’m sharing my current favorite beauty products for a fresh face!
I have fairly oily, sensitive skin, and struggled for a long time to find makeup that would stay put throughout the day without looking cakey. I am not necessarily a big makeup wearer, particularly in the age of COVID, but when I do want to do a little something special with my face, this is how I go about it:
Prep
Before even beginning with my makeup, I like to apply this Too Faced Lip Plumper and let it work its magic throughout the duration of my routine. The same principle can be applied with other lip balms or treatments—I will often use Aquaphor in place of this step as well.
Primer – Benefit Porefessional
Though I usually skip on primer (egregious, I know), this one by Benefit does a great job at filling in your pores and giving your makeup something smooth and tacky to stick onto. I keep a travel-size with me.
Skin tint – Glossier
I will admit, this product basically has no coverage at all, but I enjoy it because it will very naturally and minimally even out the tone of my skin, even if it doesn’t hide my blemishes. That’s where our next step comes in!
Concealer – Maybelline Instant Age Rewind
I will apply this concealer under my eyes, primarily. Then, I’ll go in to spot-correct any acne scars or other blemishes. I like this concealer because it blends out seamlessly, sets well under powder, and doesn’t feel cakey.
Powder: Fenty Beauty Invisimatte Blotting Powder
Here is an excellent example of a beautiful translucent powder that doesn’t create a white-cast on the face. I also love that it is so easily re-appliable on the go, hence the name “blotting powder.”
Cheeks – Physicians Formula Butter Bronzer
Next, I will dip into this bronzer by Physicians Formula to give my face a bit of color. I will use this around my forehead, cheekbones, and under my chin to carve out some dimension. After doing so, I dip into the same product with an eyeshadow brush and blend the color into my crease, acting as a neutral shadow.
Highlight – Glossier Haloscope (in the shades ‘Topaz’ and ‘Quartz’)
Now that my face is looking a little more warmed up, I will take some of the Haloscope highlighter in Topaz on my finger and tap it around the center of my lid, giving the bronzer a little glow. Finally, I will tap the shade Quartz on the tops of my cheekbones and inner corners of the eyelid.
Eyeliner – Em Cosmetics Illustrated Eyeliner
If I find I have time to kill, or perhaps if I’m feeling particularly brave, I’ll attempt a subtle winged liner. I like this one by Em Cosmetics because of how pigmented the product is, and the brush’s ability to glide so easily over the eye. Do give it a good shake before use. I like to smudge the liner a bit on my upper lash line.
Mascara – Glossier Lash Slick
To top off the eye look, I will go in with my favorite mascara by Glossier. The formula is lightweight and works to really separate and elongate the lashes for a natural finish.
Brow Gel – Glossier Boy Brow
My brows are decently full as is, so I will often just run through them with the tinted brow gel by Glossier to give them a bushier look, and to set the hairs in place.
At last, we have arrived at the end. This is where I will wipe off that lip plumper or balm that I put on at the start of the routine in order to make way for the following products:
Lip liner – Urban Decay Glide-On Lip Pencil (in the shade ‘Naked’)
To line my lips, I use a shade very close to my natural lip color and overline them slightly.
Lipstick – La Bouche Rouge (in the shade ‘Peach Balm’)
Finally, I will apply this sheer, coral-colored balm to give my lips a slight color and shine.
As we wrap up this makeup routine, I have something special to share. If you’re curious about the La Bouche Rouge Lipstick, read more about it in my dedicated review: First Impressions: La Bouche Rouge Lipstick. Discover my initial thoughts and let’s stay radiant together!
