As winter approaches, I begin my search for a body moisturizer that I will finally love. I try to find the perfect moisturizer to keep me hydrated during the colder months, but I simply resort back to thicker-consistency formulations, hoping that it’ll protect my skin a little extra against winter’s frigidness. This year, though, I’ve discovered Alpha Skin Care Renewal Body Lotion with 12% Glycolic Acid, a formula that promises not only deep hydration but also gentle exfoliation—a combination that might just be perfect for keeping my skin winter-ready.
We spend so much time caring for the skin on our face, like with the use of active ingredients, but what about the skin on our body? This drove me to pursue a body lotion with anti-aging ingredients, in the same way that I recently pursued a body wash with active ingredients. The body wash I found was the Olay Cleansing & Renewing Nighttime Body Wash, which you can read about in my Body Care | Shower Routine blog.
I watched a review on YouTube recently about the Alpha Skin Care Renewal Body Lotion with 12% Glycolic Acid. After using it for a few weeks, I found it to be lightweight and easy to absorb. The formula is also fragrance and paraben free for those of us with sensitive skin. I love this formula during the cold, dry months because it hydrates while gently exfoliating my skin with each use, all without feeling too thick or heavy. It is stated that the formula contains 12% Glycolic Alpha Hydroxy Acid (AHA), which reduces the appearances of fine lines and wrinkles. This product offers good value, with a 12oz bottle easily lasting me over three months of use.
The only caution I would advise is if you have freshly performed any hair removal (i.e. waxing, epilating, laser, shaving, threading, etc.) services to your body. I made the mistake of applying the Alpha Body Lotion to my freshly waxed/shaved armpit and bikini line after showering one evening, and felt a sharp sting until I applied some cooling products to those areas over top of the Alpha Body Lotion.
Lastly, it’s so important to protect your skin from the sun, especially when using products that increase exfoliation. These ingredients promote more frequent cell turnover, which can heighten your skin’s sensitivity to sunlight and, over time, contribute to faster aging if left unprotected. This is why doubling up on sun protection becomes essential with active ingredients in your skincare routine.
If you’re someone who finds yourself reapplying sunscreen only minimally or not at all during the day, opting for a higher SPF, such as SPF 80+, might be more beneficial. Higher SPFs can provide extended protection for longer stretches without reapplication. For those who can reapply regularly—ideally every two hours during sun exposure—an SPF 30 may be sufficient, as it already blocks about 97% of UVB rays. Remember, however, that even higher SPFs work best with reapplication when possible, so layering your protection thoughtfully is key to keeping your skin safe and healthy.
The use of active ingredients in our body products is something I’ve found to be essential. If it interests you, please read about my facial lotion choices.
