Taking the time to properly cleanse, moisturize, and incorporate chemical exfoliation into your evening skincare routine is essential, even when we feel lazy. Here’s how I keep it simple with my favorite chemical exfoliator and other evening skincare tips!
In this blog, I will be examining a nighttime routine centered on the benefits of chemical exfoliation using my current favorite exfoliator. In order to “shed” dead skin, the product works to break the bonds between your skin cells, which will aid in cell turnover, giving you that glow. It is a much gentler option to exfoliate your skin with. If you find that physical exfoliators are more your preference, I have published a slightly different routine regarding my favorite one: Evening Skincare Routine (Physical Exfoliator).
Cleanser
It wasn’t until recently that I settled upon a cleanser to use during days in-between my physical exfoliator. I found that this one by The Inkey List really made a difference in the quantity of blackheads, while also brightening up some of my acne scars. I would not recommend using this product every day, as it can ultimately be drying.
Toner
What can I say? Paula’s Choice Pore-Reducing Toner is the only toner I’m using right now, day and night. I love this product mainly because it contains one of my favorite skincare ingredients, niacinamide, renowned for controlling sebum production, texture on the skin, redness, and pore size. It’s a vital part of my routine for maintaining a glowing complexion.
Exfoliator
On days when I am not using a physical exfoliator, I like to incorporate chemical exfoliation with this product from Paula’s Choice. It is not too harsh on my skin and shows noticeable results. However, if you have sensitive skin, go slow on this! If you are not careful, exfoliants will damage your skin more than help you. I would suggest considering a patch test because the product can be a little intense, but it does great work. It does, however, leave behind a tacky residue that can make your skin feel slightly oily before moving onto your next step. A little goes a long way, so only a couple of drops are needed to pat into the face.
Moisturizer
This is a product that I picked up recently from Ulta out of curiosity. I was a little skeptical as it is a new brand (fewer reviews to dissuade or assure me of my purchase), and its poster-child is none other than one of today’s most popular teen YouTube influencers (prime opportunity for a money-grab). I’ve been using this pretty much daily for over a month now, and I can say with confidence that I don’t find it to be anything special. It is a nice, light moisturizer, but I notice no difference in the nourishment of my skin. I will say that because it is so lightweight, those in search of a richer moisturizer will likely want to skip on this one. There is a strong fragrance to this product (mandarin and ginger), as well as synthetic dye which colors it a mustard-yellow. I am unsure of the purpose of the added colorant, as it seems to be doing nothing for the product. Nevertheless, these additives have not disturbed my sensitive skin so far. I will add, as my own personal little tangent, that I absolutely despise the packaging and pump. The divot and slope of the airless pump makes it difficult to cleanly wipe off the product you’ve just pumped out; I find myself scrambling to get every last streak off to keep the packaging looking clean. There are several other airless pump styles that could have been chosen (with a nozzle, preferably), but this one is just messy.
