Because that delicate skin deserves extra care!
The under-eye area has some of the thinnest, most delicate skin on your face—often the first place to show signs of life’s wear and tear. Think dark circles, puffiness, fine lines, that weird crepey texture that seems to appear overnight. While most of us focus on eye creams or serums to fix it, your cleansing routine might actually be part of the problem. If things are starting to look a little tired or textured around your under-eye area, it might be time to rethink how you’re washing your face.

One of the biggest mistakes people make? Rubbing too aggressively when removing eye makeup. It might feel harmless in the moment (especially at the end of a long day), but that rough tugging can cause irritation, contribute to fine lines, and put unnecessary stress on skin that’s already thin and sensitive.
Here’s a better approach I’ve come to swear by:
- Start by soaking a cotton pad with your favorite eye makeup remover, then gently press it against your closed eye for about 30 seconds. Let the product do the heavy lifting—this step helps break down stubborn mascara or eyeliner without all the rubbing.
- Once the makeup starts to lift, lightly wipe it away using the same pad. Think: soft pressure, short strokes. Minimal effort, maximum kindness.
- If your eyes are feeling itchy or irritated, try to resist the urge to rub. That delicate skin really benefits from patience. A splash of cool water can help ease puffiness and calm things down naturally, no extra products needed.
- Pro tip: Use your ring finger for anything that involves touching the under-eye area. It naturally applies the least amount of pressure, which makes it perfect for dabbing, blending, or applying product without going overboard.

And while we’re talking upgrades: if you’re already using a peptide serum on your face, feel free to bring it up around your eyes. But if you’re looking for something specifically formulated for the under-eye area, I’ve been loving the Cocokind Peptide Eye Gel. It’s gentle, budget-friendly, and checks every box: cruelty-free, fragrance-free, vegan, and essential oil-free. You can find more details on their website.
The formula itself is thoughtfully designed, with a peptide complex that helps firm and smooth, plus ceramides to support the skin barrier (major win for sensitive skin). It also contains squalane to mimic your skin’s natural hydration, and glycerin for that soft, lasting moisture that makes your under-eyes feel as good as they look. And a quick PSA: don’t skip sunscreen around your eyes. That skin is especially prone to UV damage, and a lightweight SPF, plus some chic sunglasses or a wide-brimmed hat, can do wonders for preventing fine lines and discoloration down the road.
Sometimes, the smallest tweaks make the biggest difference. Treat your under-eyes with care now, and your skin will thank you later, promise.
